Meet Merv

Merv has lived in the Norway, Illinois area since June 19, 1934. Norway is known as being the first permanent Norwegian settlement in America. (per unreliable source, our ancestors funded Columbus!)

Merv started Norwegian Implement Co. in 1963 when it was not "status" to start up out in the middle of the "boonies". So customers could find us, we decided on the name of Norwegian Implement to tie in with the locality.

His Norwegian Implement Co. logo was designed by his wife Phyllis, (who letters and pinstripes trucks, etc.). She says "That's Merv when he's in a good mood!"

Humor has always been important to me. when I'm knocked down I always reach out and grab it to pull myself back up.

Send Merv your Norwegian jokes.... He likes to laugh at himself!

Merv & the Mrs. 1953 - Celebrating our 50th in February 2005

Phyllis Carstens, Larry Varland, Jerald Enger, Mary & Bud Catlin, Mr & Mrs Bob Nelson, Bill Knauer

While I still can and able, I want to say a special thanks to the folks whose names appear on the Marque. These folks have a special influence on how I turned out to be. Having survived a brain anuerysm and this is my web site, I want the whole world to know what great folks these people are. There are others also but my marque is only so big. Thanks to all whose path crossed mine in the last 67 years. So here it goes.

The first and always first in my life is Phyllis Carstens who became Phyllis Carstens Eastwold on Feb 19th, 1955. April 1955 shortly atter we were married, a car accident crushed my head. They gave me 48 hours and if I made it, would send me to Dr. Epstein in Chicago. Ten operations later I was put back together and up and out. There was Phyllis by my side all the way. In Feb. 1990 found cancer in the lungs. Dr Beck and Dr Joh operated and I survived and again there was Phyllis by my side all the way. In 1995 my right hip retired so Dr. Rezin put in a new one. Again Phyllis was there by my side to help me through! In March 1998 I had a brain anuerysm. Survived and yes there was Phyllis to help me re-coop and now I am up and out again getting into trouble just like before. There is no words to describe my love for this great lady and I want to tell the world how great she is!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phyllis

Larry Varland-- Life long neighbor and family friend for years. When Phyllis and I set up housekeeping, Larry put in our driveway. Larry was there to help from the time I was just a little feller.

Jerald Enger-- Jerry came and helped build Norwegian Implement Company from a school program and really never left. Jerry has been a dandy fine friend and great help to me also a great asset to Norwegian Implement Company and the community.

Mary & Bud Catlin-- We lost Bud a while back but I just want the world to know what great loyal friends these folks are to me. Great neighbors and friends. Bud loved to aggetate me and I really miss that. Bud helped build Norwegian Implement Company also.

Mr & Mrs Bob Nelson-- More great neighbors and friends. They put me on the internet. They also go my 800 number going.

Jo Anne Castelli - A friend who helped me be all I can be!

Jo Anne Castelli-- It took over 50 years to keep my end of the bargain, but here it is. Way back in high school we had a simple deal she would help me graduate high school and if I could I was to help put her name on a marquee. It's not the Ritz but it is a marquee. Now I have kept my end too. I was introduced to J.C. by my neighbor and J.C.'s friend Ila Broadus. J.C. also taught me how to get along with the teachers and upon graduating from high school the school faculty voted me to receive the citizenship award. J.C. took me from failing grades to passing grades in short order. So J.C. was the big sister I needed at that time. Then she turned me loose to go find the love of my life PHYLLIS.

Phyllis is a Taurus and so was my father, Jerry and J.C. Check out what Phyllis can do for you before you leave this site on her astro pages. Phyllis is great astrologer!!!! What zodiac sign am I the best of course, I am a GEMINI!!!

Quote!! Be very careful of promises/deals made, they can take years to keep. It took me over 25 years to keep my promise to Phyllis, to build her dream house, but we did do it. It took me over 50 years to keep my end of a deal with J.C. That was made back in high school. But now I have done that too. A zillion thanks to all. When God is watching, you will be ok. Listen to your heart, use your head!

This dream house designed by Phyllis built by Merv

Bob the tech guy & Daisy Mae (Bob & Sherril Nelson)

They set up the Norwegian Implement Web Site initially and now have moved on

(because I drove them nuts!)

Daisy Mae got our 800 STIHLSAW phone number and domain name and also STIHLTOOLS for the e-mail. They have moved to greener pastures because of Bobs job but they'll be back.

We started out with a provider in Florida because Bobs brother Randy worked there. When Randy moved on so did we. Now we are with IVNet in Peru, Illinois.

Now all changes are being put on the web by Bill Knauer our new tech guy (now I drive him nuts!)

I consider myself lucky to have had the Nelson's start me out and now I have Mr. Knauer to continue to bail me out!

The fellas below are the backbone of Wegian Implement

Humor & Cartoons are a must for our ads. So right now I think up the ads then everybody takes potshots at them then Phyllis makes up the cartoons and Bill Knauer puts them on the web site, then I go back to thinking again and that's a big UFF-DA.

Merv's UFF-DA Corner

"UFF-DA" can mean anything you want it to mean... good or bad
---Like dropping your gum in the chicken yard
---Like winning the lottery
Really, it's sort of "Scandinavian slang"!
